Structure Fire 1-31-07
On
January 31, at about 9:22 p.m., Company 4 responded to a house fire at 489
Macopin Rd.
Company 4's Asst. Chief Steve Pellington was first to arrive on scene and
reported a working fire in a 2-story wood-frame, with a woman trapped on the
second floor. Company 1's Chief Rick Poplaski was next to arrive and established
command.
Chief Pellington made entry to the smoke-filled home and found the woman in a
second-floor bedroom, conscious and disoriented. Chief Pellington pulled the
women out of bed and dragged her out to the front lawn, then administered
breathing air from his SCBA until an oxygen unit was available. The woman
reported that her husband was still somewhere in the house.
A
secondary search of the first and second floors was conducted with negative
results. The fire was contained to the basement, the basement did sustained
heavy fire damage.
The second victim was found in the basement fatally injured as a result of the
fire. The fire is currently under investigation by WMFD Fire Marshal Mike Woch
and WMPD Sgt. Rich Fiorilla and the Passaic County prosecutors office..
